Jiangmuxiang Dancong (formerly known as Jiangmu Tea, later called Tongtianxiang) is named for its sweet and refreshing taste with a slight spiciness of ginger (commonly known as Jiangmu).
It grows on a south-facing hillside at an altitude of 831 meters in a tea garden southeast of Zhongping Village, Fengxi District , managed by Zhang Shixin. It is a sexually propagated plant. It is said to be over 200 years old, 3.86 meters tall, with a semi-open crown measuring 4.26 x 3.76 meters, covering an area of 0.03 mu. The stem circumference at ground level is 1.1 meters, with 8 branches 6 centimeters from the ground, indicating moderate branching density. The leaves are 9.6 cm long and 3.7 cm wide. Spring tea sprouts before the vernal equinox and is harvested around Grain Rain. The bud density is relatively high, with light green buds and no pubescence. New shoots grow in two flushes annually, with a dormant period for vegetative buds starting in October. Flowering occurs from November to December. Few flowers, low fruit set rate.
Quality characteristics: The tea leaves are tightly rolled, light yellowish-brown, and oily, with a high and lasting aroma; the liquor is pale yellow with a light green tinge, bright, and has a fresh and crisp taste with a hint of ginger and a strong mountain flavor; it has a strong aftertaste and is resistant to multiple infusions. The tea leaves are yellowish-brown and soft.
