Guihua Xiang(桂花香) Dancong tea, as its name suggests, is named for the natural osmanthus fragrance of the finished tea.(It’s not because of the addition of osmanthus, but because of the inherent fragrance of it itself.)

This tea tree grows on a west-facing mountainside at an altitude of 1100 meters in the Xiacuokengkengxin tea garden of Liziping Village, Wudong District (pictured). It was cultivated by the ancestors of the tea grower, Wen Xiqing, from a single plant that was a natural hybrid offspring of the Phoenix Narcissus variety. The tree is 280 years old, 3.34 meters tall, with a crown measuring 3.61 x 2.74 meters. It has three branches 5 centimeters from the ground, with the largest branch having a stem circumference of 45 and 40 centimeters. The branching and bud density are moderate, with green buds free of pubescence. Spring buds sprout after the vernal equinox, and harvesting occurs around Grain Rain (around October). New shoots emerge twice a year, with October being a dormant period for the vegetative buds. Spring shoots are 5 cm long, bearing 4-5 leaves. Leaves are 7 cm long and 3.5 cm wide, elliptical in shape, green in color, slightly pore-shaped, flat, and soft in texture. The leaf tip is acuminate, with 25 pairs of coarse, shallow, and sharp teeth, and distinct veins, including 8 pairs of lateral veins. Due to fertile soil and abundant nutrients, the plant grows vigorously, but has not yet flowered or borne fruit in recent years.
